Our weekend

We had a great weekend.We got to spend time with many of our family members.  Friday night we attended a gender reveal party for our soon to be nephew! On Saturday morning, we had breakfast with Jeff's family and then visited both Jeff Grandma and my grandma who are both in nursing facilities recovering from injuries.

Then we went over to my brother's house and Jeff helped my brother and dad build a new fence (of course he did, right?)

On Sunday, we were back home and enjoyed a nice church service and a fun time with friends for dinner.  Here is a video of Wesley entertaining our group of friends.  I think I realized last night what a ham he is.  As soon as he noticed every one watching him he put on a show.  Also, this is wesley going on 7 hours of no sleep, so he was deliriously happy.  Oh, yeah, and he almost walked!

What I'm currently thinking about motherhood...

I want to start by saying that I have a wonderful mom. Did you know she drives over 200 miles every week to watch Wesley for us?  But I'm not even talking about that.  She was the kind of mom that just loved her kids like crazy.  And when I say crazy, I mean she was a little coo coo over us.  She thought we were the greatest kids in the world (and probably still does) and believed that we could do anything.  My brothers and I all played sports growing up and she sincerely believed we were the best players on the team.  She believed we could play in college (3 of us did) and even go pro (none of us did, although she still has hope for one of us *cough Jordan*).  Sometimes, we (I) felt a little embarrassed by her over confidence in us and even a little annoyed by her persistence.  But now as a mother, I totally get it. I look at my Wesley and just think how perfect he is.  I mean, he really is the cutest kid in the universe, right. And he can do anything and he will be the best at it.  Haha, I am totally my mother.  The funny thing is that I already catch myself comparing him to his other little friends.  And if they are more advanced developmentally, I'm like, well Wes is more social.  Or if they are cuter or a better sleeper, I think, well Wesley is more athletic. It's crazy! But I suppose its only natural.  What kind of mother would I be if I didn't think my kid was the cutest, greatest, and overall best kid in the world? So to all you other mothers out there, just know that I am constantly comparing our kids and will always find a reason why my kid is better than yours.  He just is, because he's mine.   You understand, right?

DIY Farmhouse Table

Here is the tutorial for the awesome farmhouse table Jeff created.  Remember the raised gardens Jeff built and then destroyed to build the deck?  Well, he reused the cedar planks from the planters to make this table.  Those planks originally were from a storage shed Jeff took down in our backyard a long time ago, so these planks are actually being reused twice.  How's that for being green?

*correction here.  Your joists shoul dbe screwed in at 25 inches on center.  So the center of your joist should be at 25 inches.  Your last one will be short, but that's ok.

You will likely have to cut down your last row of planks like we did.

Look what we found

Jeff, Wes, and I woke up early on Saturday morning and hit up the garage sales in our area.  We can't get enough of the excitement hunting and finding great deals brings.  I think it has something to do with our obsession with the shows Storage Wars and American Pickers.  Turns out, we did a pretty good job this weekend.  Jeff's prize from this weekend was a beautiful scroll saw pictured below.  It is in great condition and we got it from the original owner for only $40.  This one is ten years old, but a new one (of the same exact thing) costs about $800.  Jeff had been wanting one of these for a long time, so it was perfect. I wonder what I can make him create with it?

I found a few small items, but was really excited about my finds.

This striped fabric is exactly what I had been looking for to use for Wesley's first birthday party.  I got all this for only $2.  It's atleast 10 yards of fabric.

 I found this denim shirt for $1.  It was a perfect fit and I had been looking for a denim top forever, so I couldnt believe I found it.

This week's finds made it so worth getting up early on a Saturday (not that Wesley let's us sleep in anyways).

Look who got a makeover

Jeff gave our side gate a little makeover action.  It looks so much better. 

I didn't take a before picture (Jeff doesn't always give me a warning when he starts another project), but you can tell that before, she was just a plain old chain-link fence/gate.  

Now she's all dressed up and ready for the summer parties!

Pinned It, Did It: Mini Terrariums

I've been seeing these mini terrariums everywhere and pinned a few images on Pinterest.  I just love them. Aren't they so cute.

This one from Making it Lovely isn't so mini, but it is super cute.  She has a tutorial for how to do, but really, its pretty simple: dirt, rocks, plants. put inside vase. done.

Here are ours.  Jeff actually did these for us. He found the glass vases at the 99 cent only store and used dirt , rocks, and succulents we already had at home.  So, the total cost for 4 cute terrariums was $4.  I think he did a great job. 

Deck Update: Planter, Stain, and Stairs

Jeff is almost done with the deck! This weekend he finished the new planters, stained the deck, and built stairs.  The only thing left is to create a sandbox on the other end of the deck and he's donezo!
