DIY Sharpie Mugs

I pinned this popular image on pinterest a while back, and finally got to buying the supplies needed to make my own version.

I picked up 2 white mugs from the Dollar Tree and used a sharpie I already had at home.

I love the modern simplicity of the mugs from my inspiration picture and wanted to emulate that feel, but it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do.  I love the is + hers theme, but in reality, Jeff doesnt drink hot beverages, so it didn't make sense to make him his own mug.  In the end I couldn't come up with two matching mugs, but I like them both.

The first mug I simply wrote "hello" which I thought was good for a cup of morning coffee and it also seems to be a trendy word for different art projects.  I like the way it turned out, although my ink blend a bit.

The second mug took me forever to figure out what I wanted. I must have written and drawn 20 things before I finally just asked Jeff to write a note to me. Which brings up a cool point about this project. Untill you bake the mugs in the oven, you can wipe of the permanent marker and try again. I loved that.

I also love that I now have a permanent note from my love to read over and over while I drink my coffee. Is'nt he cute.

So to be totally honest, this method isnt really totally permanent. I've heard you cannot run them through the dishwasher, but a good hand washing should stand up. I did test mine using a clorox wipe and it smeared a little compared to completely washing off before baking.

I think these make for a super cute wedding gift or a cheap holiday gift if you are looking to give someting to all your friends.  Maybe fill with fixings for hot chocolate!

Pinned It, Did it: A Footed Trunk

Several months ago, Jeff came home with this old military trunk and I knew I LOVED it, but I didn't know what to do with it.  Then I saw this image on pinterest.....

....and so Jeff had a new project.  He bought the legs at Home Depot and screwed them onto the bottom of the trunk.  I painted them gray and flipped it over.  We considered painting the trunk or doing something with it, but I think I like it as is.

The bedroom is coming together!  And I got our new rug today!! So excited to open it.

Pinned It, Did It: Penne with Balsamic Butter

Pinned It, Did It: Penne with Balsamic Butter

I pinned this recipe tonight in search of something for dinner.  I have to say it turned out pretty good. I took advice from the comments and added just half a stick of butter and substituted green beans for the asparagus.  I also only had Romano cheese on hand, but I think Romano and Parmesan are pretty interchangeable.
This was a super easy pasta recipe when you are looking for something a little different.  Wes liked it too :)

Pinned It, Did It: Dip Dyed

Okay, really what I did should be called dip painted but that just doesn't roll off the tongue.  Dip dying is pretty hot right now, from hair, to clothes, to furniture.  Jeff just said, "they dip everything, its like furniture fondue."

I saw these two pics below and decided I wanted to try it myself.

I'm not quite ready to dye the tips of my hair so I started with these little vases.

And finished with this.  I think I like the way it turned out.

It was super easy, this is how it went down:

Scroll Saw, Scroll Saw what can you make?

I posted last week about the scroll saw Jeff got at a garage sale and when I say "got" I mean "stole" because he got such a sweet deal on it, only 40 bucks!  I was excited for him because he was excited, but I didn't really know what a scroll saw did.  Naturally, I did some research and found out that a scroll saw is a DIYers dream tool.  Now, I am excited for ME that Jeff got a scroll saw.  I have started pinning tons of projects for Jeff to make for me.  Here's what I found.  What should he make first?

Some signs?

Pinned It, Did It: Mini Terrariums

I've been seeing these mini terrariums everywhere and pinned a few images on Pinterest.  I just love them. Aren't they so cute.

This one from Making it Lovely isn't so mini, but it is super cute.  She has a tutorial for how to do, but really, its pretty simple: dirt, rocks, plants. put inside vase. done.

Here are ours.  Jeff actually did these for us. He found the glass vases at the 99 cent only store and used dirt , rocks, and succulents we already had at home.  So, the total cost for 4 cute terrariums was $4.  I think he did a great job.
