How jeff came home

Jeff usually gets home from work before I do, so when his truck was no where in sight when I got home, I knew he was up to something.  Not long after, I hear his truck pull in and am greeted by this lovely sight.

Then I see that his truck is filled up with...err...stuff?

Turns out that Jeff bought this stuff {shelving units} from a post on craigslist for 50 buckaroos.  To me, it looks like an expensive pile of junk, but Jeff swears that its the shelving unit he's been looing for to transform our mess of a garage. 

He'll put them on this wall.

And fill them with this junk, I mean, stuff.

I think the sweetest part of the deal was that the guy threw in this stationary belt sander for free because he was so relieved that some one was hauling away his no longer needed shelving.

Jeff worked on this project all evening, so hopefully we will have some after photos soon!

Deck Progress: What We Planted

The deck is pretty much done, yay!  Jeff is so excited.  We just need to put sand in the sandbox and build a cover for it.  Last week, Jeff planted some yummy plants in the deck planters.  Here is the run down:

My Mommy Diary: Sick Baby

We are so blessed to have a healthy and strong baby boy.  I wish I could say he never gets sick, but I swear the kid's had a cold since he was 3 months old.  But if you didn't see the snot rolling down his face, you would never believe he was sick.  He just kept going, was happy, played, eat well, slept well...just kidding about that last one, he has never slept well.  But the other ones are true.  He was a good sick baby.  Even when we had a little scare because he was wheezing and had to give him treatments from a nebulizer, he was so tough.  But today was different.  Today, when he woke up, he didn't want to play with his toys (what?).  He didn't want to eat, wasn't that excited about his bottle and just wanted me to hold him.  He sat on my lap for 30 minutes as we watched cartoons this morning (and if you know him, you know that is very rare).  Too be honest, I was loving it.  He never wants to cuddle with mommy longer than 30 seconds, so 30 minutes was heavenly.  At that point, I just thought he didn't get enough sleep and so I put him down for an early morning nap, he woke up 30 minutes latter screaming.  I think that was when I realized he probably wasn't feeling well.  So we cuddled a little more, I carried him around everywhere, took his temperature (normal), gave him some tylonel anyway, and put him down for another long nap.  When he woke up, he perked up a little.  We went next door for a small Cinco de Mayo party and he did fine.  Then we took him to Jeff's soccer game.  He did fine there too, but then he fell asleep in my arms even with all the ruckus of the game and crowd.  Another clue that he really wasn't feeling well. But this is my tough boy, so surly he can handle another event.  A second Cinco de Mayo party was next and I was starting to feel like the worst mom ever for dragging around my sick kid.  Now he was really clingy and I noticed that he felt hot, so I took his temperature again and... 102! What?!? 102? My poor baby! I AM the worst mother ever! I gave him some more medicine and held him until it kicked in.  We didn't leave the party because he fooled me again by perking up and having a good time.  We didn't stay too late, but the car ride home was rough.  And our normally good, happy, easy going baby was wreck.  It was/is so heart breaking.  And even though I love the cuddle moments, having a sick baby is so hard.  It just tares at your heart.  I am so happy that we have been blessed with a healthy baby for the most part and my heart goes out to the parents dealing with chronically sick children.  It must be so hard!  Anyway, lesson learned today.  We are staying home when he is sick.  My poor baby. :(

Our Water Baby

I love the beach, its my favorite place to be.  I feel so lucky to live so close.  Today Wesley and I took Nukie to dog beach for some much needed fresh air for all of us.  Jeff met us there after work.  We weren't planning on getting wet, I honestly didn't expect the weather to be so nice on the water.  But it was the perfect day and the low tide created some warm pools of water and we just knew Wesley would love it, and love it he did.  And I just love that he loves the beach too! Planting crops

Last night we made a little family trip to Home Depot to pick up dirt and a few crops for our new raised garden planters.  The planters are so big that we ended up buying 20 bags of garden soil.  Before he filled them up, Jeff built a false bottom in the platers that was about 10 inches off the ground so that it would take less dirt to fill them.  He then lined the sides and bottom with 6mm all purpose plastic to protect the wood.

Here's 15 of the 20 bags.  Jeff had bought 5 earlier to see how much he would need.  I totally doubted that he could fit 15 bags on that cart.  Jeff is surprised that I still ever doubt him.

Here are the crops we got: carrot seeds, yellow bell pepper, zuchini squash, crockneck squash, watermelon, and some herbs: mint, cilantro, adn basil.  The watermelon and herbs arent actually going into these planters.  We have other plans for them that I'll share later.  We were at Lowes the other day and felt they had more variety, so we are going to check out their supply later and possible get some more veggies.

By the time Jeff finshed it was dark outside, so I will show pictures of the final reveal next week when we have the entire deck area completed.

Any suggestions on plants to get?  We are no experts in gardening so any tips you have for us would be great!

Scroll Saw, Scroll Saw what can you make?

I posted last week about the scroll saw Jeff got at a garage sale and when I say "got" I mean "stole" because he got such a sweet deal on it, only 40 bucks!  I was excited for him because he was excited, but I didn't really know what a scroll saw did.  Naturally, I did some research and found out that a scroll saw is a DIYers dream tool.  Now, I am excited for ME that Jeff got a scroll saw.  I have started pinning tons of projects for Jeff to make for me.  Here's what I found.  What should he make first?

Look What Jeff Made: Glass Shelves

A while back, Jeff made this cute little shelf that hangs above our toilet.  I think we were inspired by something we saw in a Ready Made magazine. It was one of those "Jeff can you make this for me?" moments.  And he did.  You can buy glass shelves at Home Depot and make the shelf holder by cutting slits into a 2x2.  Easy right?  I have no idea.  But I hope this inspires you.  Please excuse the dusty shelves.
